Gatehouse Gala pulling in the crowds as celebrations build towards the big day

Gatehouse Gala is pulling in the crowds as the eight-day civic celebration builds towards the gala on Saturday and Sunday’s riding of the marches.

Chairman David McNicol said: “The opening ceremony went really well on Sunday afternoon. The sun came out and it was roasting.

“We had 31 cars in the car treasure hunt on Monday and with four people to a car that’s a lot of people. The only problem was a traffic jam up at the Cambret mast where one of the clues was but apart from that everything ran smoothly.

“Some people had not been up there before and they said the view was amazing.”

Gala committee member Sara-Leigh Cain said: “It has been a fabulous week so far. The kids have come out and there’s been great support from everyone.

“For the grand parade on Saturday we welcome floats from anyone and everyone. And as an added incentive every float that enters gets £50.”
