Gatehouse community group celebrates funding boost from Young Start programme

A community group is celebrating a huge lottery win.

TGB Gatehouse has landed more than £93,000 from the Young Start programme, administered by the National Lottery Community Fund.

The cash will let the group continue to offer activities for young people in the town.

TGB project coordinator, Sara-leigh Cain, said: “It is fantastic news. We are delighted to have been awarded funding for the next three years.

“The National Lottery has supported us as an organisation for the past three years and we are so pleased to be able to continue working within the community with their financial backing.”

The Young Start programme uses cash in dormant bank accounts and in the past decade has awarded more than £50 million to more than 1,000 groups across Scotland.

It aims to help people aged between eight and 24 become more confident and help them realise their potential.

National Lottery Community Fund Scotland chairman, Kate Still, said: “Each time more money is awarded, more young people around the country benefit, and we’re delighted that we can make that positive impact for their futures.

“We are always keen to support projects through our Young Start fund that put Scotland’s young people at the heart of the development and running of services.”
