GAT/PAT tests 'only for applicants to state universities'

The general aptitude test (GAT) and professional and academic aptitude test (PAT) are for students intending to enrol in state universities, not for government officials to use for other purposes, said Chalee Charoenlarpnopparat, manager of the Thai University Central Admission System 65 (TCAS 65).

Mr Chalee was responding to Patchayapa Vipulakorn, a nurse in active government service who posted on Facebook that she applied to sit GAT/PAT tests in order to submit her scores for a human resources development course at Naresuan University.

But when she turned up to a test venue, an official who learned she was not a student told her she could sit in the room but not take the tests.

Mr Chalee said he was not aware of the incident. But he explained that GAT/PAT tests are only for students applying to state universities.

Anyone found to have taken the tests without being qualified would have his or her results nullified, he said.

According to the test regulations, anyone who has entered the test venue unqualified would not be allowed to take the tests - and not be allowed to leave until the end of the exam to prevent the questions from being  being leaked to outsiders for dishonest purposes, Mr Chalee said.
