Gase declines to elaborate on Timmons suspension, leaves door open for return

Dolphins coach Adam Gase declined to go into details on linebacker Lawrence Timmons' indefinite suspension on Wednesday, saying he prefers to keep the details in-house.

But in a key statement, Gase didn't rule out Timmons eventually returning to the team.

"It's going to be something I'm going to keep in house, and I'll decide on that later," he said.

Gase refused to elaborate on details of Timmons' situation.

"Everything dealing with that we're just going to keep it in-house," Gase said before practice. "We handled it the way we feel we needed to handle it, and really I don't have anything to add to that."

Gase said Timmons, who went AWOL (absent without leave) on Saturday, definitely won't practice this week or play Sunday when the Dolphins visit the New York Jets.

But Gase also said, in general, players who violate the culture he's tried to create with the team can be brought back into the fold. The longest a player can be suspended by a team, according to the Collective Bargaining Agreement, is four games.

"I think every situation is different," he said, "and I would say that you can be forgiven if the right steps are taken."

Gase didn't elaborate on what "the right steps" means.

Gase also declined to say whether the team has all the information on Timmons' absence.

"We'll keep everything in-house," he said. "I'm not going to get into all of this."
