Gase: Cutler would return as Dolphins starting QB if he plays against Raiders

BALTIMORE _ Coach Adam Gase said after the Miami Dolphins' blowout loss in Baltimore that if quarterback Jay Cutler is able to return from his rib injury for the Nov. 5 game against Oakland, he'd be Miami's starting quarterback.

Gase said Cutler, who was injured in the second half of last Sunday's 31-28 victory over the New York Jets, ran and threw with the team Monday. Cutler didn't practice.

"I'm not 100 percent sure right now," Gase said after the, 40-0, loss to the Ravens when asked whether he thought Cutler would be able to return for the Raiders game. "I know Monday he ran with the team and he threw. He felt pretty good. I wasn't going to put him out there tonight. I just didn't think it was the smart thing to do. I know he's tough but I didn't want to put him in a bad situation where he could get hurt worse."

Asked if Cutler would come back as the starter against Oakland, Gase replied, "Yeah."

Quarterback Matt Moore, who started Thursday, finished 22 of 44 for 176 yards, no touchdowns, two interceptions _ which were both returned for touchdowns _ and a 47.2 passer rating.

Cutler sustained what Gase called "multiple cracked ribs" when he was hit by Jets linebacker Jordan Jenkins.

Under Cutler's guidance the Dolphins were among the NFL's worst offenses, a trait they displayed itself once again Thursday against Baltimore as Miami's was shutout for the second time this season.
