A driver hit a parked car and a wall, causing damage to a gas pipe, and then left the scene.

Several roads in ?Ynswen, which is the main route between Treorchy and Treherbert, had to be closed overnight while the gas board attended to make the gas line safe.

A spokeswoman for South Wales Police said: "Enquiries are continuing to identify the driver, who made off from the scene."

It is thought the car was travelling up Ynyswen Road towards Treherbert when the crash happened.

Police warned that Clinic Road and Ynyswen Road to Dunraven Terrace would be closed "for some time".

They added: "We would be grateful if the public could avoid the area and use an alternative route."

The roads re-opened later on Sunday morning.
