Gas new show set in inner city day-care to premiere as part of Five Lamps Arts Festival

A gas new show set in an inner city day-care is set to premiere as part of Five Lamps Arts Festival.

Peter Sheridan is set to premiere his "poignant and occasionally hilarious" new show Philo at The Sean O’Casey Community Centre Theatre in East Wall on Thursday, October 21st.

Peter, who is known for his work on both stage and screen, draws inspiration from themes such as social injustice, juvenile crime, the impact of domestic violence and the dynamics of complex human relationships.

Peter's storytelling is rooted in the characters he grew up with in Dublin’s north inner city, where his new play will be shown.

This particular play follows the unexpected relationship between a nun and single mum, Philo, whose main stress in life is her trouble-making son.

Philo Nolan, played by Neilí Conroy (Fair City, Love/Hate), is described as a larger than life character with the determination not to be beaten down, putting on a smile all while she faces hardships and various struggles.

Philo's job is at an inner city day-care where she works under Sister Rosaleen, a shy nun from the countryside played by Sligo native Nichola MacEvilly (Ripper Street).

Sister Rosaleen steps in to steer Philo's son away form stealing cars. As the drama unfolds and Sister Rosaleen's gentle nature clashes with Philo's brass Sheriff Street feistiness, the two women take audiences on a sometimes hilarious, often moving journey.

Uncomfortable truths are brought to light, old secrets are shared and lies are outed as the characters are faced with decisions that will determine their respective future journeys.

Philo is written and directed by Peter Sheridan and produced by him and Roisin Lonergan with The Five Lamps Arts Festival.

Tickets cost €10-€12 and can be purchased through Eventbrite.
