Gas network improvement works in Hamilton set to continue for another six days

Gas network improvement works in Hamilton are set to rumble on for another six days.

And a new traffic management plan is being put in place to reduce disruption on Muir Street.

Gas network operator SGN has held talks with South Lanarkshire roads engineers after a temporary traffic light controlled contraflow set up for the latest stage of the Muir Street works resulted in significant delays.

Working together they have agreed to a plan that will allow single lane two-way traffic for the remainder of the works.

South Lanarkshire Council Head of Roads Gordon Mackay said: “With schools going back later this week we were particularly keen to address this issue promptly, I am pleased to say that SGN were quick to recognise our concerns and revise their traffic control arrangements.

“For the duration of these works there will be a single lane for eastbound traffic heading towards Palace Grounds on Muir Street with no right turn onto Lower Auchingramont Road, however a short diversion around the Palace Grounds roundabout will maintain access to the junction.

“There will also be a single lane for Westbound traffic coming from the direction of Palace Grounds, three-way lights will be in place at the Lower Auchingramont Road junction.”
