Gas explosion sparked by deliberate bin fire in housing estate

Police have launched a probe into a gas explosion outside an Erskine property in the early hours of the morning.

The incident happened at around 4am yesterday (Saturday, September 12) on Maxwell Drive in the Bargarron area of the town.

Officers attended the scene after receiving reports of a bin deliberately set on fire on the street, close to a pipeline, which led to the explosion.

Nobody was injured in the blaze and the road was sealed off while emergency services ensured the area was safe.

Police Scotland are now appealing for witnesses to come forward in a bid to catch the firebugs responsible for the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "We are investigating a wilful fire raising incident which happened around 4am in Maxwell Drive, Erskine.

"If you have any information or witnessed what happened, please come forward to police."

Anyone with any information regarding the incident is asked to contact 101 quoting incident 0679 of 12 September 2020.
