Gas explosion at Lanarkshire house in early hours of this morning

Two people have been taken to hospital following reports of a gas explosion in Lanarkshire this morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Cedars Grove, Bargeddie, Coatbridge at 6am.

Police confirmed two people were taken to University Hospital Monklands in the aftermath.

The 39-year-old woman has since been transferred to Glasgow Royal Infirmary with serious injuries and a 43-year-old man released following treatment.

A spokesperson said: "Neighbouring properties have been evacuated as a precaution. Officers remain at the scene."
