Gary Taylor-Fletcher on the day ex-Nottingham Forest boss Billy Davies caused uproar in the City Ground tunnel

Former Leicester City midfielder Gary Taylor-Fletcher has spoken out about the bizarre mind games ex-Nottingham Forest chief Billy Davies tried to play on play-off rivals Blackpool.

The two sides met back in 2010 while both gunning for a place in the Premier League.

The Reds finished third that season while promotion outsiders Blackpool had crept into the top six by just a single point on the final day of the season.

And as the two sides came to blows in a dramatic two legged semi-final, the Scot tried some very unorthodox mind games to unsettle Forest's opponents, which backfired, as Taylor-Fletcher explained to the EFL's Official Podcast.

"I remember in the play-offs we had Nottingham Forest and about three games before the end of the season we played them at home," he said.

"I remember there was a big uproar because Billy Davies made eleven changes for the game and dropped all his best players against us.

"We beat them 3-1, and after the game we were coming down the tunnel and he was stood there and he was rubbing his hands and he was saying: 'Job done for me. I have done this so that we get you in the play-offs. If we get you in the semi-final then we are guaranteed to get to the play-off final'.

"We were like: 'You're honestly saying that now?'.

"So we obviously got them in the play-offs and we didn't have to do a team talk because we remembered that.

"We beat them 2-1 at home, and I don't know what he was thinking but he was waiting there again, rubbing his hands, and telling us that we weren't going to score at their place.

"I remember some of his players were looking at him wondering what he was doing. Some of his own players!

"Wes Morgan told me later when we were at Leicester than he lost them that game by giving us the ammunition to go and absolutely destroy them.

"For the second leg we had picture of him all over the dressing room wall and all of the quotes that he had said and we went out to absolutely destroy them.

"We beat them 4-2 at their place and after the game we all waited in the tunnel so that when he came in we could all rub our hands and we said: 'Job done, Billy. Cheers mate, see you later!'"

Blackpool would go on to beat Cardiff City 3-2 at Wembley Stadium two weeks later to book their place amongst the big boys in English Football.
