Gary 'Spike' O’Sullivan says it would be a dream come true to fight for world title

Cork light-middleweight Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan claims it would be a dream come true to challenge for a world title in the USA on Independence Day.

The Leesider could go head-to-head with Brazil’s WBO champion Patrick Teixeira on July 4.

Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boxing Promotions, who promote O’Sullivan and Teixeira, are planning an American Independence Day card in Florida behind closed doors.

O’Sullivan, who lost his last outing to ex-world champion Jaime Munguia in Texas earlier this year, said: “It would be a dream come true as it would be my first time fighting for a world title.

"I think it will happen. He’s awkward enough; he’s taller than me and a southpaw. It’d be a tough fight, but I’m capable of winning.”
