Gary Speed's sons' bravery after Newcastle United great's death left mark on Kieron Dyer

Gary Speed's sons blew Kieron Dyer's 'mind away' with how brave they were after their father's death.

The former Newcastle United midfielder took his own life on November 27, 2011 at the age of just 42. Speed's former team-mates are still coming to terms with his loss to this day and Shay Given previously told ChronicleLive that 'it's still hard to get your head around it and even talk about him'.

Dyer is the first to admit that, until speaking to professionals, he did not necessarily understand that 'sometimes people think being gone is going to be better for everyone'

It was Dyer who broke the news of Speed's death to Craig Bellamy and the Welshman was understandably too upset to play for Liverpool against Man City in the Premier League later that day.

Two months later, Speed's family, including his sons, Thomas and Edward, and his father, Roger, were invited to Anfield by Bellamy.

Dyer, who was also in attendance, admits Speed's sons' bravery that night was 'one of the most powerful things and inspirational things' he had ever seen.

"Bellers was playing for Liverpool and they were playing Man City in the League Cup semi-final," Dyer told talkSPORT.

"Bellers had a box at Anfield and invited Gary Speed's two children to come to the box.

"I was in the box and they were there with Gary Speed's dad and how brave and how strong and how resilient these kids were blew my mind away. Honestly, I've never seen that."
