Gary Peterson: Ex-Warrior Damon Jones says Steph Curry has more to prove next season than James Harden

How you know that the NBA's fantabulous, super frenzied free-agent sweepstakes has just about come to a halt:

Damon Jones is talking unpurified nonsense.

Jones? You might recall him from his peripatetic NBA career (which included 10 stops). These days he spends some of his days on ESPN's "First Take."

It was there Friday morning that Jones was asked which NBA luminary _ the Warriors' Stephen Curry or Houston's James Harden _ has more to prove this season.

"Steph Curry," said the man who was a Warrior for 13 unforgettable games in 1999-00. "KD's gone, OK? Klay Thompson is going to be out maybe four, five, six months. (Curry) has to show up."

Good point. Don't you hate it when Curry hits cruise-control when there's a game to be won?

"He has to show why when the pundits say this is Steph Curry's team, or his franchise, he has never, never taken a team to the playoffs without two All-Stars on the Warriors. James Harden has."

As a matter of fact, Curry has done it twice. In 2012-13 (David Lee) and 2014-15 (Klay Thompson).

We get it, Damon. Everyone makes a mistake every now and then. Like your Twitter profile indicating you are a 12-year NBA vet when basketball-reference.com shows 11.

"So for me, there's where the pressure lies," Jones said. "(Curry) has to get this team to the playoffs with limited, limited players."

I'm no pundit (I keep failing the test), but Jones is all over the map here, logic wise. The Warriors finally had to pay the bill for all those superteams, so it's on Curry's back to get this ghost ship roster to the playoffs?

Meanwhile, not a word about Harden, whose Rockets have lost four consecutive playoff series to the Warriors _ including 2014-15 when Curry had just one measly All-Star at his disposal.

Makes you pine for the days of thinly sourced reports linking Durant and the Knicks.
