Gary Neville voices doubts over Dean Henderson's Manchester United future after David De Gea form

Gary Neville says he will not be drawn in by the hype surrounding Dean Henderson at Manchester United.

Twenty-three-year-old Henderson returned to United in the summer following an impressive two-season spell on loan at Sheffield United.

He has so far provided back-up for David De Gea but made his Premier League debut for the Reds when he came off the bench in last weekend's 3-2 win over Southampton.

Speaking to Viaplay Fotball, Neville says it is right that De Gea is considered the first-choice goalkeeper after his improved form at the start of this season.

The former United defender also said that he will not be excited over Henderson's potential at Old Trafford until he turns that into regular performances.

Neville said: "I think De Gea's the No. 1 and I think Henderson has a lot to do in my mind. I don't get carried away by a young, talented goalkeeper at Manchester United.

Who should be United's No. 1? Let us know in the comments here.

"I've seen it before over the last 25 years where there've been young, talented goalkeepers who've threatened to come in, but to stand in those goals at that club, particularly when fans come back into the stadium, they're big, big boots to fill.

"Only Edwin van der Sar and Peter Schmeichel have filled those boots in my time and David De Gea has now.

"I think De Gea has probably been better this season, I was nervous about him towards the end of last season and I think even Ole would have been looking at him, thinking he's not far away from being left out.

"He's stuck with him, which I think is the right thing to do. If you're going to take someone like him out, you have to make sure you're 100 per cent certain, as, once you take him out the team, you really are moving his confidence away and he may as well leave the club.

"For me, it's exciting that Henderson's coming through but I reserve my judgement on whether he can become someone who can go in Manchester United's goal for the next 10 years."
