Gary Neville uses Kieran Tierney's Arsenal 'brilliance' to leave nemesis Jamie Carragher in stitches

Impressed Gary Neville believes the emergence of Kieran Tierney has helped create a team that Arsenal fans can like again.

The former Manchester United star admits he has been blown away by the former Celtic star and his all-action displays from left-back.

Tierney missed the game against Crystal Palace last week but has returned quickly to make the starting XI against Newcastle.

And Neville couldn't resist having a pop at "namedropper" Jamie Carragher after the Liverpool icon reeled off a host of football big-hitters he had been speaking to in recent times during an earlier segment.

The 47-year-old said: "I spoke to Brendan Rodgers, Neil Lennon and his U-9s coach about him."

That had Carragher and host David Kelly in stitches but Neville was deadly serious about how much he rated Tierney as a player.

He said: "A few weeks ago Arsenal played Chelsea and the Brazilians had Covid issues - I think Arsenal fans found a team they could start to like.

"He's a big part of it, is Kieran Tierney. I really like him, I think they trust him, he gives his all, I think Kolasanac was there and he was not at the level Arsenal need.

"Brilliant threat going forward but I also think he can defend as well.

"I have to say, I think Arsenal are getting towards a team that fans can like again. there's a long way to go yet.

"His delivery from the left hand side is brilliant and it's vital that he returns to the team."
