Gary Neville trolls Jamie Carragher after Man City pip Liverpool FC to Premier League title

Gary Neville poked fun at Jamie Carragher after Manchester City beat Liverpool to the Premier League title by a single point.

The Blues beat Brighton 4-1 at the Amex to retain the league for the first time in the club's history, with second-placed Liverpool recording the third-highest points total in the history of the first division with 97.

Neville, the former Manchester United captain, replied to a tweet in which Carragher highlighted the gap between Liverpool, City and United with a photoshopped image of Liverpool's first team lifting the FA Youth Cup that Liverpool's under-18s won last month.

"Great season mate well done!" Neville's tweet read, in response to Carragher's post.

It read: "Congratulations to Man City worth winners of the PL, great effort from LFC & 1 more win away from [European Cup] number 6 don't forget! [sic]"

"Man United can't beat Cardiff & the blues [Everton] are as bad as ever!! #UpTheReds [sic]"

United lost 2-0 against relegated Cardiff at Old Trafford after the Reds' failure to reach the top four was confirmed last weekend by their 1-1 draw at Huddersfield, whose relegation to the Championship was confirmed on March 30.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing scored both of Cardiff's goals, and United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he expects his side to return from the summer with a refreshed mentality.

Manchester United get a glimpse of their past and future vs Cardiff

Man City triumph is the greatest league campaign in English football history

“It will take some time to close in on the top, we finished five or six points behind third, fourth, fifth and that has to be our aim. The top two teams have set a standard higher than before and we have to take up the next challenge," he told the BBC.

“The work starts now, everyone has the summer off but we have to come back with a different mentality and different attitude of being a Man United team.

“The ones who played, did well but it was not good enough.”
