Gary Neville tells Trent Alexander-Arnold he can learn from Liverpool team-mate

Gary Neville has told Trent Alexander-Arnold how he can improve his game by learning from "unbelievable" Liverpool team-mate Andy Robertson.

Alexander-Arnold and Robertson both played key roles in the Reds' title-winning team of last season.

Both full-backs made a joint Premier League team of 2020 picked by former Manchester United defender Neville and ex-Liverpool star Jamie Carragher.

They were among six Liverpool players to make the XI along with Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, Jordan Henderson and Mohamed Salah.

Neville is a big fan of Alexander-Arnold but believes he can still develop further by emulating Robertson's consistency, intensity and defensive work.

“He (Robertson) is unbelievable," said Neville on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football show.

"Three, four years to do what he is doing up and down that wing, intensity, quality and, the big thing, consistency.

"Trent Alexander-Arnold is a star, he mesmerises me as a full-back with what he can do, but if he wants to look anywhere, on what to become in the next five years, it’s the left-back he is playing with.

“To get as good as he is defensively, to get as consistent, as intense in every minute of every game. I think he’s got the perfect person to look at to get to a level that is even better than now, which is some level.”
