Gary Neville tells Manchester United what to do with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Gary Neville has told Manchester United to hold their nerve with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and give the manager time to rebuild the team after several years of relative underachievement.

United go into Sunday's game against Newcastle in the bottom half of the table having won just two of their seven matches at the beginning of the season.

However, Neville does not believe Solskjaer is solely to blame for the Reds' poor recent form and has called on the club's board to keep faith in the Norwegian and back him in the transfer market.

"I feel he is sweeping up a mess that was created before him and he is being put under pressure because of that," Solskjaer told Sky Sports. "He has a lot of injuries but it is an immature team. He has a young coaching staff and the club needs to hold their nerve.

"They need to give him the money in the transfer window that previous managers at this club have had.

"Solskjaer needs to make sure he is the manager to exploit from this clean-up he is doing.

"I don't know what the mandate is. I am hoping they have told him they will back him for three or four transfer windows.

"There has been a step back to go forward. I can see a logic to things.

"I don't believe the man at the top (Ed Woodward) should be there to do it anymore. He has had his chance."
