Gary Neville tells Man United who to sign to partner Cristiano Ronaldo up front next season

Gary Neville has told Manchester United what they need to do in order to sign Erling Haaland next summer.

United spent big this transfer window acquiring Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo.

They are expected to be in the market next year for a midfielder at the very least, as the Manchester Evening News understands Declan Rice has already been earmarked as the club’s number one target and figures have already discussed the potential framework for a deal to sign the West Ham star.

Despite having a plethora of talent in attack, though, former United defender Neville believes that United should enter the Haaland sweepstakes.

Speaking on Sky Sport’s Monday Night Football, Neville called on manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to not only make the deal happen but to pair him up front alongside Ronaldo.

In order to facilitate such a deal, the former professional player turned pundit can see three players departing, clearing a direct path into the United first team for Sancho’s former Borussia Dortmund teammate.

"I think Manchester United next year will lose probably Anthony Martial, they'll lose Juan Mata [and] Edinson Cavani will leave because they got another year out of him. So it will free places to be filled," Neville said.

“If Haaland becomes available next summer and they want to do a deal with his agent – which is the big thing with Haaland – then Manchester United should go for him. And I don't think Cristiano coming prevents Haaland joining.”

“Cristiano has played with Karim Benzema, with Gareth Bale, with all these great Galacticos at Real Madrid. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wouldn't put him on the bench, why would you put him on the bench? You can fit two strikers in a team, surely."

Haaland is said to have a release clause next summer of around £75million and will be targeted by the biggest clubs around Europe.
