Gary Neville tells Man City what to do before transfer deadline

Gary Neville has added his voice to the calls for Manchester City to sign a centre-forward.

The Blues were condemned to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Tottenham in the capital on Sunday afternoon when Son Heung-min's effort found the bottom corner — and the result might have increased pressure on Pep Guardiola to sign a recognised striker.

The MEN understand signing a centre-forward has been City's priority since Sergio Aguero's departure, but Etihad chiefs are yet to strike a deal for a suitable striker in the transfer market, with Tottenham are reluctant to allow Harry Kane to join City.

When considering City's opening day defeat and that their rivals have strengthened, Neville has explained he thinks it's vital that Guardiola signs a traditional goalscorer this summer, suggesting Kane has the ability to be a game-changer.

"I don't think Man City have been the type of club that would react off the back of one defeat, but it's three now [Champions League final, Community Shield and Premier League] and they need a striker," Neville told Sky Sports.

"Gabriel Jesus and Ferran Torres are forwards, and I know that's the way the game is going in terms of flexible forwards.

"But I think they need a point, they need something, because in games like on Sunday, Kane could have been the difference. He would have taken a chance, played it forward more, he would have demanded that they play quicker, he might have got his head on a cross.

"Kane will be on the agenda this week, he's been on the agenda all pre-season. It's interesting that he wasn't included in the Spurs squad.

"He would always be here. So something is happening. If City had any doubts before, which they don't, they need a striker."
