Gary Neville tears into David De Gea after mistake against Manchester City

Gary Neville has hit out at David De Gea for his error in Manchester United's 2-0 defeat to Manchester City at Old Trafford.

Bernardo Silva opened the scoring after 54 minutes before Leroy Sane sealed the three points for Pep Guardiola's side.

De Gea was at fault as the ball came off his shin before heading in the goal and Neville wasn't holding back in his criticism of the Spanish keeper.

Speaking on Sky Sports, he said:  “I’ll give him a bit of leeway for the first goal.

“But I’m not going to on the second goal. It’s a really bad mistake.

“It went from a one-man to a four-man counter-attack for Manchester City.

“There were bodies everywhere, flying forward.

“But the goalkeeper has to be doing better.

“He’s been magnificent for Man Utd for so many years but this season it’s just not happening for him.

“Those feet are letting him down, so many times.

“It’s straight at him and goes off his shin into the net.

Neville compared his latest error with the mistake against Barcelona in the Champions League in the second leg.

He added: “I was in the Nou Camp watching that mistake against Messi last week.

“It shook me watching De Gea make a mistake like that.

“This one isn’t as bad, but still for him, it’s a really bad error and it’s not happening for him at the moment.

“He’s going through a really difficult time.

“He’s been a one-man wall for United for four or five seasons.

“Leroy Sane would have wanted to go across De Gea, it’s certainly not even where he would have wanted to put it.”
