Clubs like Tottenham Hotspur who have placed staff on furlough leave should be banned from signing players in the upcoming window.
That's the view of Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville.
Newcastle United were the first top-flight club to furlough non first-team staff, with Spurs following their lead before Norwich and then Liverpool did the same.
However, Liverpool later reversed their decision following a fierce backlash from former players and supporters.
But Spurs, according to reports, have no intention of following Liverpool’s lead, and Neville believes to stop other clubs doing the same, the Premier League should put a transfer embargo on sides who have furloughed staff or cut players' wages.
"What I would say in the bigger picture, these transfer discussions, Kane for £200m, Sancho for £100m, big money signings completely undermine the discussions they (Premier League clubs) are having with players,” the former Manchester United defender told Sky Sports.
"If you are having a 30 percent pay cut across the board and you are talking about spending a billion on players, you may have to put a transfer embargo in place.
"It is very difficult for players (taking a pay cut) to see a transfer for £200m a few weeks later.
"It doesn’t feel right to me.
"There is no smoke without fire and I would suggest the Premier League stop this and put a transfer embargo in place on all clubs that are trying to reduce their wages.
"Players are having the wool pulled over their eyes by clubs."
