Gary Neville spots Liverpool tweak to take advantage of Tottenham weakness

Liverpool capitalised on Tottenham's tactical reshuffle in the crunch clash at Anfield.

The Reds welcomed Mauricio Pochettino's men to Anfield in what appeared to be the toughest game of their run-in.

Spurs started brightly but Liverpool soon found their groove and took the lead through Roberto Firmino.

Liverpool's in-form left-back Andy Robertson had acres of room to pick out his cross and found Roberto Firmino, who planted his header past Hugo Lloris.

It was the start of a worrying spell in the game for Spurs as their back five struggled to get up the pitch.

Kieran Trippier and Danny Rose started in wing-back positions for Spurs with Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez and Jan Vertonghen playing centrally.

Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah in particular stopped the wing-backs getting forward and their positions allowed Robertson and Alexander-Arnold to bomb forward.

Gary Neville was full of praise for Liverpool's attacking players for their role in the fantastic start.

"Their positions are absolutely outstanding in pushing Tottenham back," the Sky Sports pundit said.

"I used to love it when opponents played 5-3-2 against us because as a full-back you could get forward all day long unopposed.

"Spurs can’t come to terms with the game. It’s been a real struggle for them."

Jurgen Klopp started a midfield three of Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Georginio Wijnaldum at Anfield.

Adam Lallana had started in the last home game against Burnley but he was made to wait as he began the afternoon on the bench, alongside Fabinho and Xherdan Shaqiri.
