Gary Neville slams 'smiling' Tottenham star and questions Jose Mourinho's man-management

Gareth Bale is continuing to get on Gary Neville's nerves as he watches him smile on the bench.

The 31-year-old joined Spurs on a season-long loan and fans were giddy about the prospect of the Welsh international rekindling the form that catapulted him to seal an £83m move to Real Madrid in 2013.

But it seems with each game that passes, the hope kindled by Tottenham supporters is beginning to dwindle.

Bale has started just two games for Jose Mourinho's side this season and has played a mere 248 minutes in the Premier League.

Despite scoring four goals in all competitions, he has regularly been on the bench, though admittedly he has struggled with knee and calf problems as well.

It has been a similar story for Dele Alli, who has fallen out of favour under Mourinho this season.

The 24-year-old was reportedly keen on a loan move to Paris Saint-Germain, a side now managed by former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino - a man he had a good relationship with.

His sole start in the Premier League this season was in the opening game in the 1-0 defeat to Everton.

He has had even less time on the pitch than Bale and former Manchester United defender Neville wondered what was going on with the pair.

“Is he [Mourinho] going to bring Dele Alli and Bale round?” he said.

“I’m not saying he has to pander to these players because, to be honest with you, Gareth Bale’s wound me up all season, just watching him smile on the bench.

“Dele Alli, to be fair, I’ve worked with him at England.

"He’s a brilliant talent but he should be doing a lot more, I want a lot more from him, he’s an outstanding player.”

He added: “Deliver on a great career. There’s a reason why his career’s doing what it’s doing, it’s not just Jose Mourinho, Dele’s got to get hold of it himself.”
