Gary Neville slams Romelu Lukaku - and explains why Man Utd have sold him

Gary Neville has suggested Romelu Lukaku's 'unprofessionalism' is behind Manchester United's decision to let him go.

The Belgian striker is finally set to complete his move to Inter Milan, with the two clubs agreeing a £73m (€80m) deal.

Inter had a bid of £54m rejected earlier this summer with United holding out for closer to the fee they paid Everton for Lukaku in 2017.

They have finally got their wish with Lukaku keen to move on after slipping down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

United legend and Sky Sports pundit Neville believes United have their reasons for letting Lukaku go.

Responding to a post from United We Stand's Andy Mitten, Neville tweeted: "He admitted he was overweight! He is over 100kg! He’s a Manchester United player!"

"He will score goals and do well at Inter Milan but unprofessionalism is contagious."

Lukaku admitted in December that he had started a new diet in a bid to shed weight after bulking up too much at United.

Neville was particularly critical of Lukaku after the revelation as the Belgian struggled for form under Solskjaer and former boss Mourinho.

The Old Trafford legend has often slammed the 'rancid' attitude in the United changing room and it appears Lukaku was one of his targets.

The striker's professionalism has also come into question this summer amid reports of a fall-out with Solskjaer and teammate Paul Pogba.

Lukaku was not involved in any of United's pre-season friendlies as he looked to secure a move away from the club.

He failed to report for training this week and angered Solskjaer and risked insurance issues by taking part in sessions with former club Anderlecht.
