Gary Neville has slammed Manchester United's Super League withdrawal statement as "quite possibly the worst communication I've ever seen in my life."
The Red Devils announced late on Tuesday night that they were U-turning on their controversial decision following a huge social media backlash, protests from fans and the rest of the big six getting cold feet.
Manchester United were joined by Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham who all followed suit in a devastating night for the competition.
Announcing their decision to U-turn, the Red Devils released the following statement on the club's official website: "Manchester United will not be participating in the European Super League.
"We have listened carefully to the reaction from our fans, the UK government and other key stakeholders.
"We remain committed to working with others across the football community to come up with sustainable solutions to the long-term challenges facing the game."
Reacting to the robotic response from the club, former United captain Neville tweeted: "I've read this three-four times now. Quite possibly the worst communication I’ve ever seen in my life!"
Neville has been vocal throughout the week as he's protested against the proposal both on social media and Sky Sports.
He toasted a glass on Twitter on Tuesday as news broke that clubs were pulling out of the competition, and said on Sky Sports that he hopes the big six get punished.
"Perez might have them on a £100million fine. I hope so," said Neville. "I hope Perez has got them on a massive fine to withdraw, the lot of them. And I hope they basically end up eating each other."
