Gary Neville slams 'awful' Liverpool and gives verdict on Jurgen Klopp future

Gary Neville labelled Liverpool an "awful" team undergoing an "absolute collapse" after they lost their sixth-consecutive home match.

The Reds lost 1-0 to Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday, further adding to their woes after a wretched run of form.

Liverpool sit eighth in the Premier League with teams above them holding games in hand, leaving them with an all-mighty task to finish in the top four and qualify for the Champions League.

Reviewing their defeat at the weekend, Neville tore into Liverpool, claiming the side looks like it has "lost everything" that made them great.

"Liverpool have been absolutely fantastic and they have reached unbelievable heights," he told the Gary Neville podcast.

"I said a few weeks ago that it was acceptable (the drop off) and I'd go easy on them. They'd have a dip in the fourth year, we could never do it in the fourth year at Manchester United there was a dip.

"This isn't a dip, a dip at United was finishing second or third. This is an absolute collapse. An absolute collapse. They are woeful at the moment, in every single way. I don't know what it is. I'm sure there's no panic, Jurgen Klopp has the experience, the quality and he knows this season needs to finish and limp over the line, wheelbarrow them over the line if he has to.

"When he gets over the line, they have to regroup. Then you think there's a European Championships, the season will start again soon and his players won't get much of a rest. They have to regroup and make sure the damage done now isn't longstanding.

"It's still the same group of players. I never think it's as bad as it is or as good as it looks. You can't do what they've done in recent years without being fantastic professionals and great players. You don't wrestle with City and then take the title without being a fantastic team.

"What's happening at the moment is bizarre. I'm having a right laugh at the moment, a bit of a joke because it's been a difficult three years watching them do what they've done.

"They are just awful, they've lost everything. It feels like they have lost absolutely everything they had. The speed of play, the confidence, that Anfield was a difficult place to go, the resilience win when they weren't playing well. None of it is there at the moment.

"I don't know how they get that back. They need to get to the end of the season, they will really struggle to reach the top four. The confidence must be really low in the dressing room, it's been drained out of them. I have no answer.

"It goes beyond a fourth-year dip. It's a real collapse. They have a great manager who has done a brilliant job. The owners have got to trust him to put it right. He's done it for them for four or five years.

"He's an unsackable manager for the next four or five years. He epitomises what they want, what they are, he's captured the essence of the club, he plays outstanding football and he is allowed one very bad season, by their standards."
