Gary Neville slams Arsenal's board following Unai Emery's sacking

Gary Neville has taken aim at Arsenal’s board following their decision to sack head coach Unai Emery on Friday morning.

A 2-1 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League on Thursday night night proved to be the final nail in Emery’s coffin, with the club’s hierarchy acting following a poor run of form and fan unrest.

Freddie Ljungberg will lead Arsenal for Sunday's game away to Norwich City on Sunday, while the club assesses its options moving forward.

But Neville believes the Gunners’ current position is a reflection on how the club failed to properly plan following Arsene Wenger’s departure in 2018.

“I think it’s a reflection upon the board and the sporting directors when a manager fails,” the former Manchester United full-back told Sky Sports.

“The succession planning from Arsene Wenger hasn’t succeeded, they’re now on a roundabout where they are changing managers quickly.

“I suppose in some ways it is unsurprising, it was always going to be difficult after such a long period with a manager and Unai Emery, I think he has been disrespected at times in the last few weeks, his accent, his manner have been disrespected, I think that was getting quite unsavoury.

“The reality of it is that he is a top coach who ultimately couldn’t find his way in this particular job and he has struggled with it. My feeling is ultimately one of sadness because a man has lost his coaching role today.”
