Gary Neville sets Manchester United deadline on Anthony Martial's future

Gary Neville says that Manchester United must put a deadline on Anthony Martial's future at the club.

The former United star has previously claimed that the 24-year-old is too inconsistent.

Martial has scored eight goals in the Premier League this season and will be expected to step up even more with Marcus Rashford sidelined for a 'few weeks'.

Ex-United striker Louis Saha explained this week that Martial needs to be 'more ruthless' in front of goal and now Neville has claimed that the Frenchman must prove his worth this year before he says the Reds have to make a decision.

"I think we’re in a situation with Martial whereby you are frightened to death to let him go because of what he might become," Neville told Sky Sports.

"I think, shall I put a time-frame on him? I think Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is somebody who is as much in the job where ‘I’ll give him a chance, I’ll play him in his best position, I’ll give him a year of football’ and if at the end of that year he has delivered, you know where you stand.

"If he hasn’t, there comes a point where you say ‘enough is enough’, he’s had his chances. He’s scored quite a few goals along with Rashford."

But Neville does believe that the forward can step up during the rest of the season.

He added: "The problem for United this year hasn’t been Rashford and Martial, yes they need more in that area, but in terms of being ‘the man’ I think Martial’s time is now."
