Gary Neville has insisted Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to be heavily backed in the coming transfer windows to "beef up" Manchester United's squad.
United are heavily depleted by injuries, which was made worse as Marcus Rashford went off with a problem against West Ham.
With United trailing the Hammers 1-0, Rashford joined Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood on the sidelines, leaving Jesse Lingard as their central striker for the remaining 30 minutes at the London Stadium.
Aaron Cresswell added a second for the hosts to compound United's misery and condemn them to a second Premier League defeat of the season.
With Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez both allowed to join Inter Milan in the summer, United have been left with very few options in the forward area.
With that in mind, Neville, who was on co-commentary for Sky Sports against West Ham, believes Solskajer needs to be heavily backed in the coming 12 months to add more quality to his current squad.
He said: "The clouds this week have started to part this week with two victories, two clean sheets but if they fail away from home again, questions will appear, particularly over the squad depth.
"There are no centre-forwards. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is going to need support in January and next summer. This squad needs beefing up with quality and experience and numbers."
The former United captain then added: "I’ve got no problem with them letting players who didn’t want to be at the club go.
[Alexis] Sanchez was having a nightmare, Lukaku, to be fair, didn’t look like he wanted to be there.
“They haven’t obviously been able to bring in the players that they wanted. I’m not saying they should have panic brought by any stretch but in reflection, it’s a statement of fact, these are the players Manchester United have got let on the pitch when they’re trying to win a Premier League game.
“Now Juan Mata is off and Angel Gomes is on, a young boy out of the academy, which is fantastic, but that is a depleted team and squad.
"Nobody likes academy players playing for Manchester United more than me but the manager needs some experience out there with them. They haven’t got any.”
