Gary Neville sends Manchester United transfer message over Jude Bellingham

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has said he would prefer to see the club target Borussia Dortmund's Jude Bellingham over West Ham star Declan Rice.

Rice has long been linked with a move to United and the MEN understands that the club are putting a strategy in place to try to sign the midfielder next summer.

The England midfielder has a contract at the London Stadium until 2024, though it's said he's unlikely to sign a new deal, potentially paving the way for a move to Old Trafford at the end of the current campaign.

But when asked on Twitter whether he would prefer to see Rice or Bellingham donning the famous red shirt in the future, Neville said it would be the latter.

While there are a number of high-class attacking midfielders in the squad, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has yet to find a balance at the base of midfield, with Fred and Scott McTominay inconsistent when tasked with shielding the defence.

Although Rice would be able to do that job well, Neville's preference for Bellingham is also understandable.

The 18-year-old is a thrilling box-to-box prospect and has excelled at Dortmund since joining the club last summer. The England international opted against a move to United in favour of the Bundesliga side.
