Gary Neville says Manchester United should rest players in clash with Liverpool's title rivals Man City

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has suggested the Red Devils should rest players in their upcoming Premier League clash with Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola’s side travel to Old Trafford to play their game in hand knowing, as it stands, victory would put them on top of the pile and within reaching distance of a second Premier League title in a row.

Liverpool , therefore, will be hoping their historic rivals can do them a favour against City but Neville has argued that rotation is necessary - and highlighted next week’s clash as the game to make changes.

Barcelona president opens door to Philippe Coutinho departure - but only on one condition

“If they beat City but lose to Chelsea, they still end up out of the top four. If they lose to City but beat Chelsea, they’re in the top four,” he told Sky Sports.

“My point is, in terms of priority, if they were to win against Everton on Sunday, the game to sort of change players around a little bit would be the City game.

“That’s not to say they go into the City game thinking they lose the game, they have to win, but with four games in 10 days, you can’t play the same 11 players.

Sadio Mane's comments about Jurgen Klopp prove his future is at Liverpool

"My view would be if you beat Everton on Sunday, make two or three changes against City.”

United take on Barcelona this evening in the Champions League, before travelling to face Everton at Goodison Park and then hosting City and top-four rivals Chelsea.
