Gary Neville says Manchester United need to follow Mauricio Pochettino Tottenham example

Manchester United legend Gary Neville believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to follow the example of Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino to rejuvenate his side.

The Red Devils have struggled for consistency this season and saw their hopes of Champions League football ended on Sunday with a surprise draw against a Huddersfield Town side who have already been relegated from the Premier League.

That means United will return to Thursday night football in the Europa League next season and Neville believes it provides further evidence that a significant reshuffle of the playing squad needs to take place in the transfer market this summer.

While it will be a stern task, he also believes that a lesson can be learnt from Tottenham boss Pochettino .

Manchester United see the best and worst of this squad vs Huddersfield

“You have to watch this Manchester United performance sometimes to understand how far away they are. I can’t imagine Ole Gunnar Solskjaer down there looking at this team thinking ‘I love watching this team’, because I don’t,” he said on Sky Sports’ commentary.

“This is not a team, the more I watch it’s not a team. It reminds of the Tottenham group that Mauricio Pochettino picked up, where he had [Emmanuel] Adebayor, [Etienne] Capoue, a group of players that look like individuals, no real spirit.

“Then he just dismantled it piece by piece. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to dismantle this side piece by piece. It would be nice if the club got an experienced sporting director and recruitment team to help him."
