Gary Neville says Man United flop 'obviously better' than £35m Chelsea World Cup target

Inter wing-back Denzel Dumfries has attracted a lot of transfer interest in the Premier League with Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs all keeping tabs on the Dutchman. With Dumfries included as a key part of the Netherlands World Cup squad all three clubs can have a closer look at the 26-year-old in Qatar.

Having impressed for the past few seasons at Inter with his blistering runs from wing-back, Dumfries has become a well-liked player by many clubs looking to reinforce their respective squads.

Dumfries was a doubt for the Netherlands' opening game against Senegal but was included in the starting team by Louis Van Gaal with Memphis Depay, who is also attracting attention from Chelsea and Arsenal, on the bench.

The Dutch looked far from their best in the opening 45 minutes with Senegal causing a lot of problems down the right-hand side of the Dutch with Dumfries often getting caught out of position and exposing Mathias De Ligt.

On the opposite flank, Van Gaal's side look far more solid with the more defensive wing-back Daley Blind supported by Manchester City's Nathan Ake. The biggest moment of concern came on the right when Ismalia Sarr skipped beyond Dumfries and fired towards goal with De Ligt unable to close him down quickly.

At half time, Gary Neville brought up the difference in defensive capabilities between the two flanks with a clear message about Dumfries.

"Daley Blind’s obviously a better defender than Dumfries but also Ake’s comfortable getting to the channel behind him De Ligt is not."

Blind spent nearly four years in the Premier League with Manchester United and mostly struggled to make a lasting impact but a return to his home nations domestic league with Ajax has seen him be able to show his impressive traits.

If Dumfries was to sign as a possible Reece James alternative at Chelsea, a RCB that is aggressive and quick into the challenge would certainly be best for the Inter star as De Ligt has seemingly struggled with his defensive positions when Dumfries bombs forward.
