Gary Neville says it is "impossible" for Man Utd to win Premier League in next two years

Gary Neville believes it is "impossible" for Manchester United to win the Premier League in the next two years.

The Red Devils legend believes there must be a "a lot of change" at Old Trafford before they are ready to challenge fierce rivals Manchester City and Liverpool for the biggest prize in domestic football.

Neville recognises there will be changes to the playing group this summer, but says it will take more time before United are ready to rub shoulders with England's elite again.

Jose Mourinho oversaw the club's worst ever start to a Premier League season in 2018-19 before being relieved of his duties in December.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took caretaker charge and presided over a dramatic upturn in form.

But after knocking Paris Saint-Germain out of the Champions League and being appointed boss on a full-time basis, United's form dipped once again and they finished sixth in the table.

The Red Devils were fully 32 points behind champions City and 31 adrift of second-placed Liverpool.

"There has to be a lot of change here. With the exchange of some players it is not done," Neville told Bild.

"It will not be possible for United to become a champion for the next two years."

United have won 20 titles but have not been crowned English champions since the 2012-13 season - Sir Alex Ferguson's last in charge at the Theatre of Dreams.
