Gary Neville's worrying assessment of rumoured Manchester United right-back transfer target

Gary Neville does not appear to be a fan of rumoured Manchester United right-back target Denzel Dumfries, if his previous comments are anything to go by.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to add a new right-back to his squad this summer following the departure of Antonio Valencia, the unreliable form of Ashley Young and the inexperience of Diogo Dalot.

United's number one targets appears to be Crystal Palace's Aaron Wan-Bissaka, after the 21-year-old proved himself to be perhaps the most defensively sound full-back in the division in his first full Premier League season.

However, the Eagles won't let their Player of the Year go without a fight and have already rejected a bid from United - reportedly wanting close to £50million for their prized asset.

As a result, The Sun reports that United are looking at alternatives and are considering PSV's Denzel Dumfries.

The 23-year-old is the first choice right-back for the Netherlands and played when the Oranje beat England in the Nations League final.

However, United legend Nevile wasn't impressed with Dumfries' displays in Portugal and was highly critical.

“He’s not a defender, at all," Neville said while on punditry duty for Sky Sports. “From the first minute everything has looked off.”

United have also been linked with PSG's Thomas Meunier as another potential alternative to Wan-Bissaka.
