Gary Neville's warning to Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ahead of Manchester derby

Gary Neville has warned Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that he could be in "big trouble" should Manchester City inflict a similar result to Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp's side ran out 5-0 winners at Old Trafford - one of Manchester United's worst home results - and the former United defender believes that a repeat will add pressure.

Pep Guardiola's side have a reputation throughout the league for their free-scoring, ruthless showings and they go into the clash with United on the back of a home defeat to Crystal Palace.

Solskjaer, on the other hand, saw pressure ease slightly since the dismal Sunday showing in October after a win over Spurs then a hard-earned draw against Atalanta in midweek.

A win would see United move level on points with their rivals although they would need a healthy scoreline to overtake the Blues and their task will be made more difficult with the absence of Edinson Cavani and Raphael Varane who miss out through injury.

City bounced back with an emphatic win over Club Brugge in the Champions League but Neville has made it clear that a defeat to their rivals isn't entirely the end of the world should they pick up their first league win at Old Trafford since April 2019.

"Depends how, it's all about the how today [Manchester United get beat]. The performance has got to be good, if they get done 5-0 he'll be in big trouble let's be clear, you can't get beat 5-0 by Liverpool and four or 5-0 by City," he told Martin Tyler prior to the Manchester derby.

"But, you can get beat by Manchester City, loads of teams, you know, get beaten by Manchester City. So the idea that today that Manchester United play really well, it's a tough game and they just get edged out, would that result in him losing his job? No, I don't think it would at all but if it was a real bad one then he could come under pressure again absolutely."
