Gary Neville's The Overlap for Sky Sports to have permanent home in Manchester - thanks to a cup of coffee

Gary Neville's popular interview series The Overlap is to have a permanent home in Manchester - thanks to a cup of coffee.

The former Manchester United and England star has signed a deal with THG to film episodes for Sky Sports at its state-of-the-art studios near the airport.

The 11.6-acre Icon Studio has already been used by brands such as Asda, Disney and Lego.

Mr Neville launched The Overlap in April 2021 and has counted the likes of Harry Kane, Roy Keane and David Beckham among its guests.

Previous episodes have seen Mr Neville interview his guests while walking around their local neighbours.

But now the series is to have a permanent home in Manchester after Mr Neville met with THG co-founder Matthew Moulding over a cup of coffee.

Since retiring from football 2011, Mr Neville has become a pundit on Sky Sports and ITV as well as opening two hotels in Manchester and is currently building the St Michael's development in the city centre.

In a video posted on social media, Mr Neville said: "We've been hibernating The Overlap for the last two months but it's about to wake up.

"The Overlap just started a year-and-a-half ago with me thinking I was going to walk around in people's cities, towns, and it got to a point probably mid-way through last year that we thought that we'd never really had a home.

"We need to do this properly now and make something that's consistent and constant over a period of the next two to three years.

"We've worked in partnership with The Hut Group to build this studio and the team here have done an unbelievable job.

"It's the right time for us to have a home. It's right up my street and it looks absolutely brilliant."

Mr Moulding added: "A few months ago, I had a coffee with Gary Neville in Manchester and invited him to the THG campus for a tour.

"I showed him around our studios building and told him he was free to use it for filming anytimes

"Three-months later and I'm proud to say his show, TheOverlap, has a new home in one of our studios.

"Filming kicked off last night with a small number of lucky THG staff in attendance.

"Ingenuity is often considered to be purely technology and website related, but Studios is a key part of Ingenuity.

"It's easy to forget we create a colossal amount of content each year for our brands and our clients."
