Gary Neville's Sky Sports podcast hijacked by Arsenal fans after title prediction

A group of Arsenal fans hit back at Gary Neville after the Sky Sports pundit backed their Premier League title push to fall apart.

The Gunners went eight points clear of Manchester City in second by winning 2-0 at bitter rivals Tottenham earlier this month. Speaking after that game, Neville tipped Arsenal to finish THIRD - below Pep Guardiola's side and his ex-club Manchester United.

Mikel Arteta's team responded to Neville's prediction by beating United 3-2 at the Emirates on Sunday. Arsenal are now 11 points ahead of the Reds Devils - with a game in hand - and a small group of home supporters were keen to make their feelings known.

The Arsenal fans approached Neville on the commentary gantry while he filmed the latest episode of his Sky Sports podcast with Martin Tyler. The supporters could be heard shouting something over Neville's shoulder, which promoted him to respond.

"I think there's some Arsenal fans having a little bit of a pop," said Neville before turning around to speak to the fans. "You alright, lads? Are Arsenal going to win the league? I don't think you will! But that's life! But you're having a great season, well done."

Neville and Tyler both laughed but the tone in Neville's voice changed and he seemed concerned, as the fans continued to shout. He added: "I don't know whether it's going to turn a little bit nasty, this, from a little bit of good humour."

One fan then dangled a scarf directly behind Neville, but the footballer-turned-broadcaster remained professional. The fans eventually left the Emirates and Neville continued to offer his opinion on Sunday's events and Arsenal's title hopes.

The incident happened just a week after Neville predicted an Arsenal collapse. He told Sky Sports: "They won't win the league. Manchester City will win the league, and I think Man Utd will finish second, and I know that will annoy Arsenal fans."

Neville added: "I think at some point Man City will hit a run. Once they do, they've got to play Arsenal twice... At some point, there will be a very difficult period for Arsenal this season. Is it conceivable that Arsenal are going to continue as they are? I don't think it is."

Despite clashing with Arsenal fans on Sunday, Neville doubled down on that view. He said: "They've got an opportunity, here. They can win the league. It would be incredible if they did win the league and they are in with a massive, massive shout.

"I know you're going to ask me [are they going to win it], it's the same answer as last week. I think City will go on that unbelievable run - they [Arsenal] have got to play City twice.

"But that doesn't really matter. Where Mikel Arteta has got this Arsenal team to - and this ground to - halfway through this season [50 points after 19 Premier League games] is a really brilliant achievement and it's going to be a great second half to the season."
