Gary Neville's Saint-Maximin admission as he stars for Newcastle United against Manchester United

Gary Neville says he would not have liked to come up against Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin during his days as a player.

Saint-Maximin put in another superb performance for the Magpies as they earned a well-deserved 1-1 draw with Manchester United.

Not only did the 24-year-old open the scoring at St. James’ Park, but he also gave Diogo Dalot and the rest of the Red Devils’ defence a torrid evening.

The Frenchman provided Newcastle with a constant threat in attack due to his ability to beat defenders with both pace and trickery.

In fact, that is something he has been doing all season, providing them with a shining light in an otherwise difficult campaign.

Of each player in the league to have played at least 90 minutes of football so far this season, only Adama Traore averages more successful dribbles per game in the Premier League.

Saint-Maximin averages 4.17 per 90, highlighting the level of his ball carrying ability.

His tally of four goals and three assists this season is also well on course to be his best for goal contributions since moving to the Northeast.

And speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Neville believes that Saint-Maximin is a nightmare for any full back to come up against, particularly if they are left one against one in the way that Dalot was for Man United.

He said: “I’d hate to play against him. I feel for Diogo Dalot tonight. He was exposed at times, but he stuck to his task, he did okay but he was up against a tough opponent. He's one of the worst to play against in the league.”
