Gary Neville's damning verdict on Arsenal's defending for Spurs' opener in north London derby

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has had his say on Tottenham’s opening goal in the north London derby - and it is not what Arsenal fans will want to hear.

Christian Eriksen put Spurs 1-0-up inside ten minutes after some poor goalkeeping by Bernd Leno, but the former England full-back has criticised the Arsenal back four, in addition to the goalkeeper.

Speaking as a commentator on Sky Sports' coverage of the game, he said: “Sokratis, I haven’t got a clue what he’s doing but the rest of the back three are there behind him but then they get pulled apart.

“He [Lamela] takes the shot early, and it’s not very good. The ‘keeper, he has to push it wider than that. It’s very good from [Heung-min] Son, typical Tottenham at their best, runners coming from everywhere, diagonal runs.

“The goalkeeper, he’s either got soft hands that pulls it into his body or the hard hands that push it wide. He puts it into a place where Eriksen can not miss.”

The Arsenal defence has had plenty of criticism in the past and, after conceding three goals against Liverpool last weekend, things don’t seem to be getting much better for David Luiz & co.
