Gary Neville's backhanded compliment to Leeds United after hammering at Manchester United

Gary Neville has offered Leeds United a backhanded compliment after their 6-2 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The Whites once again produced a free-flowing performance which led to praise aplenty for their approach to the game. But the points were not forthcoming, with the Red Devils exposing Leeds time and time again.

Scott McTominay opened the floodgates with two goals in the first three minutes before Bruno Fernandes and Victor Lindelof also netted.

Why can't Leeds defend set pieces?

Liam Cooper pulled a goal back for Leeds but the Red Devils' dominance resumed after the break with an effort from James and Fernandes' second goal, while Stuart Dallas provided mere consolation in the second half.

Neville was again impressed by Leeds' style of play which he believes results in better football on the eye, with the former United star commending Marcelo Bielsa's men for their courageous effort despite shipping six goals.

“These (Leeds) are a daft bunch, you know. You watch them and you think, what’s going on? It’s brilliant, it’s absolutely brilliant. Oh, I wish there were 75,000 in here," Neville told Sky Sports.

"Leeds just think they can take on everyone 1-on-1. We used to do that in training, but more for fitness not actually style of play. I love it. They are all brave on the ball. They all make angles and never shake responsibility. That's why I like them, they are a courageous team."

Leeds will be hoping to get back on the horse once again when they host Burnley in the Premier League at Elland Road on Sunday, December 27.
