Gary Neville has put forward an argument for why Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could have been named manager of the season last year.
Neville was responding to a jibe from Jamie Carragher over why Solskjaer had not appeared on a vote for the most impressive manager last season.
The duo were appearing on Sky Sports' Premier League preview show when viewers were asked to vote on who they felt was manager of the season last season.
Carragher immediately pointed out the lack of Manchester United boss Solskjaer on the shortlist.
Pointing at Neville, the former Liverpool defender said: "I can’t see where Ole is. He’s telling me he’s done a good job."
Neville remained silent before being asked why Solskjaer could be included on the list.
Whilst Neville said Jurgen Klopp was the best manager, the former United defender said his old teammate had impressed over the course of the campaign.
He said: “Ole could have a case for being in there, for getting them up to third in the league.
"I think at one point, when you think about where they were at Christmas time, they were absolutely done, it felt like. He was under massive pressure.
"The turnaround at the end of the year, finishing third, you could argue he could come into that.
"I think Jurgen Klopp was the best manager. I don’t think it was just for last season, it’s about what he’s done over the past four years in terms of growing a team and rebuilding a club - getting them to a point where they produce incredible performances. Champions League finalists, Champions League winner, Premier League winner."
