Gary Neville described Cristiano Ronaldo's opening goal against Tottenham Hotspur as "special" as the 36-year-old magnificently opened the scoring against Tottenham Hotspur.
Prior to the game, there was a lot of build-up surrounding the Portugal international's impact on the team and whether he should be dropped for the trip to North London but as he has done since his return to Old Trafford, Ronaldo pulled off a moment of brilliance to give Manchester United the lead.
It was a stark contrast to the first half against Liverpool as the Reds reduced Nuno Espirito Santo's side to just one shot on goal in the whole of the first half.
Bruno Fernandes was instrumental in the goal as the midfielder picked up possession on the edge of the host's box and lofted a delightful ball into his Portuguese compatriot's path before Ronaldo rifled the ball past Hugo Lloris.
The former United right-back praised not only the movement and execution of the five-time Ballon d'Or winner but complimented the 27-year-old's vision plus the impact the two international teammates have.
"You just watch him pull off Ben Davies - his movement here is special. That little bit of a shuffle to the left-hand side to get onside. Then the movement in behind," he said.
"The pass is perfect and then you’re asking yourself can he finish and it is absolutely wonderful from Cristiano Ronaldo, that is a special goal.
"Only one place he can put it and could he have saved his [Ole Gunnar Solskjaer] life. It’s a brilliant goal. You talk about the impact of Fernandes and Ronaldo and they’ve connected there."
