Gary Neville debunks reaction fans thought he had to Arsenal winner vs Man Utd

A number of Arsenal fans were delighted by clips circulating appearing to show Gary Neville's reaction as the Gunners sealed a last-minute victory over Manchester United on Sunday.

Former United captain Neville was on Sky Sports duty for the game as the visitors attempted to derail the league leaders' title-push. However, after a topsy-turvy opening hour, Eddie Nketiah struck in the final minute to settle the game in the favour of Mikel Arteta's men.

The last-gasp goal was a sickener for United fans, not least Neville himself. Stills on Twitter showed the 47-year-old with his head in his hands after his former side were beaten at the death, prompting plenty of satisfaction from Gunners fans, though Neville later moved to debunk suggestions that the images were from Sunday's game.

"Priceless" was the reaction from one Arsenal supporter. "You gotta enjoy those tears" said another.

One fan took things even further. "Gary Neville's facial reactions after Nketiah's winner should be framed and placed at every corner of the Emirates if Arsenal win the EPL this season," they wrote. However, Neville was quick to clarify the story behind the photos, tweeting "That wasn’t yesterday in comms my friend" after the photos were sent to him by an Arsenal supporter.

The two teams were all-square at half-time, with Nketiah equalising after Marcus Rashford had put Erik ten Hag's visitors in front. Bukayo Saka and Lisandro Martinez exchanged goals early in the second half and the game looked set to end with the spoils shared, only for Nketiah to deliver the late winner after a nervy few seconds as an offside call was checked.

"I don't see them going on to win the league," Neville said on Sky Sports, suggesting the Gunners' task will still be a tough one despite their five-point lead at the top with a game in hand. "I think Manchester City will win the league because what they've got in them is a special run.

"I think at a point in the season Arsenal will lose one or two matches and City will be right on their shoulders and it will become very difficult for them. But they could win the league and... I thought they would be nowhere near winning the league, Arsenal, I can't believe they're in the chat.

"The fact that they're in the chat of winning the league is incredible, so it's not a negative thing for me to say I think City will win the league, because that's what we all probably said at the start of the season. I think City will hunt them down, but they're in with a shout and that's unbelievable for Mikel Arteta.

Earlier in the day, Manchester City had beaten Wolverhampton Wanderers to briefly close the gap to two points before Arsenal kicked off. Erling Haaland scored all three goals for Pep Guardiola's team, bringing his tally for the season up to 25 in the league and 31 in all competitions, and the two upcoming meetings between City and Arsenal could still have a huge impact on the destination of the title.
