Gary Neville provides tactical insight into Anthony Martial's opener

Gary Neville has provided his tactical insight into’s Anthony Martial’s opener in Manchester United ’s 2-0 Premier League win over Manchester City on Sunday.

Ederson had a horror show, allowing Martial’s shot to squirm under his body as the home side took the lead on the half hour at Old Trafford.

Despite the Brazilian’s obvious mistake for the first, Neville believes Bruno Fernandes’ inventive free-kick enabled the Frenchman to break the deadlock in the Manchester derby.

Speaking on co-commentary for Sky Sports, the ex-United legend said: “Ederson... that's a big mistake.

"But it’s clever [from Man United]. They isolated Sergio Aguero against [Anthony] Martial.

"The goalkeeper should save it and he makes a right hash of it.

"United have been better. The chances have been better and they got the goal they deserve."

The goalkeeper was once again at fault for United’s second, throwing his clearance straight to Scott McTominay, who made no mistake in putting the long-range effort in the back of the net in the closing seconds of the game.

That sealed the three points for the Red Devils, who are now just three points behind fourth-placed Chelsea as the race to finish in the top four intensifies.

They’ve gone an impressive 10 games unbeaten in all competitions as they completed the league double over their great rivals for the first time since the 2009-10 season.

It was also the third time that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have triumphed in four meetings this term.

Meanwhile, it was a seventh defeat for City - that’s the most Pep Guardiola has suffered in a league campaign in his managerial career.

They remain a mammoth 25 points behind leaders Liverpool , who now need just two more victories to secure a first league title since 1990.

They still remain in two competitions though as they target defending the FA Cup as well as lifting a maiden Champions League title.
