Gary Neville outlines historic moves that hint at Harry Kane to Man Utd transfer

Gary Neville says that a Manchester United move for Harry Kane would fit in with the club's policy of snapping up core British talent.

Kane has been linked with a move to Old Trafford as doubts persist over his Tottenham future, with Spurs facing a fight to finish in the Premier League's top four when the season can eventually resume.

The England captain hinted in a recent Instagram chat with Jamie Redknapp that he could be prepared to leave Spurs in the future, and Neville says a switch to Old Trafford would make sense.

"It fits Man Utd's historical transfer [record], going back to Bryan Robson, Roy Keane, trying to sign Alan Shearer, Rio Ferdinand, Wayne Rooney. The best or most famous English/British player in the Premier League - Harry Maguire last summer as well," said Neville on Sky Sports' 'The Football Show', on which Redknapp was also a guest.

"He's [Kane's] a clever lad, he's not somebody who would get caught out if he didn't want to say something. So the little opening of the door that he left in that Instagram piece with Jamie probably had something in it."

Neville added that Kane will not have taken kindly to Tottenham's decision to furlough some of their non-playing staff recently.

"I don't think Harry Kane will have been that impressed with his club a couple of weeks ago with what they did," he said.

"I think he's a good lad, I think he won't have taken that particularly well and he was probably just poking them [Spurs] back.

"I think he'll have been warning them to say 'just be careful because I'm watching you as that's not something that we do.'"

"Any club in the Premier League would want Harry Kane. There are some signings that are almost like gold, and barring something ridiculous like an injury you just know they're going to work.

"Harry Kane is unbreakable in the sense of his mentality. He'll always score goals, always give 100% in training. He's completely reliable.

"For Man Utd it would be a perfect signing, in terms of what they need. They've obviously already got Fernandes, Maguire. If they can get someone like Kane up front it would be a fantastic spine."
