Gary Neville on why it is good the Longstaff brothers have each other at Newcastle United

Former Manchester United star Gary Neville has opened up on why it is good that the Longstaff brothers have each other at Newcastle.

Elder sibling Sean has been in and around the Magpies starting line-up since last season, with his impressive performances catching the eye of Manchester United, who were continually linked with the midfielder throughout the summer.

But after nothing came of the speculation, Longstaff has continued in his role in the middle of the Toon midfield, and was joined by his younger brother on Sunday afternoon.

Matty was handed his first competitive start by manager Steve Bruce for side's Premier League clash against United, and capped off an impressive performance by scoring the winning goal at St James' Park.

The goal sent the footballing world into a social media frenzy afterwards and Neville, speaking in the latest edition of Sky Sports' Off Script , has revealed how they can support one an other through the ups and downs that football brings.

He said: "For the Longstaff brothers at Newcastle it will be good for them to have each other because they will suffer injuries, the disappointment of being left out, sometimes elation and then they will need to bring each other back down to earth.

"That's the support you can give each other not only brothers but as team-mates as well."
