Gary Neville offers solution to Man Utd 'unrest' amid dressing room power struggle

Manchester United's pursuit of a top-four finish was dealt another blow on Monday night against Newcastle, and former club captain Gary Neville has responded after reports of dressing room unrest in the aftermath of the 1-1 draw.

The result left Ralf Rangnick's side in seventh place, seven points outside the Champions League spots, though they have games in hand over a number of the teams above them.

Interim manager Rangnick has yet to taste defeat, since taking over from caretaker Michael Carrick at the start of December, but questions have been asked about his training methods amid suggestions of cliques within the squad.

Neville considers the problem fixable, though, and has come up with a solution to the problem before it gets out of hand.

"On United I’m seeing reports of dressing room dissatisfaction this morning," Neville tweeted.

"Something wasn’t right v Norwich and certainly not v Newcastle . Still 4 pts from those games is not a disaster considering the performance levels .

"Have a meeting ( without staff ) and sort it out!"

Neville had criticised his former club at half-time in the Newcastle game, saying "The basics of the game, every single battle they’ve lost. That’s been a really poor performance. That is a really poor performance."

According to The Mail, there is a low mood at United's training ground ahead of a January transfer window which could see a number of players leave Old Trafford.

Anthony Martial has made clear his desire to move on, with a move to Spain potentially on the cards for the French international.

Dean Henderson is also reportedly pushing for an exit, having lost his starting place under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and failed to reclaim it with Rangnick in charge.

The interim boss is expected to add to his squad in January, with Amadou Haidara and Boubacar Kamara among the midfielders linked with an Old Trafford switch as Rangnick attempts to address a problem position.

However, there may also be some departures, with Edinson Cavani wanted by Barcelona and Jesse Lingard attracting interest as he approaches the final six months of his contract.

United have scored just once in each of their four games with Rangnick in the dugout, beating Crystal Palace and Norwich City and drawing with Newcastle in the league, to go along with a 1-1 Champions League draw with Young Boys as the interim boss named an inexperienced XI.

Neville questioned United's lack of energy in the Norwich victory, saying "Any other team in the league there playing against Manchester United today would have probably at least get the point or maybe wins the game".

In addition to his concerns about the reported unrest, the 46-year-old suggested the on-pitch issues date back to before Rangnick's arrival.

"Performances haven’t been good for months but the body language in the last 2 games (highlighted by [Rangnick] post Norwich ) has been woeful!!" he tweeted.
